Nordic Green Ammonia Powered Ships (NoGAPS) project is working to pave the way for ammonia-powered vessels. The first phase of NoGAPS ran from 2020 to 2021 and developed a proof of concept on how the barriers to the adoption of ammonia as a zero-emission maritime fuel can be overcome. The second phase of the NoGAPS project is ongoing and, in this phase, the project will produce a detailed ship design for an ammonia-powered ammonia carrier – the MS NoGAPS – which will lay the foundation for a shipyard tender and the construction of the vessel.
A substantial amount of work is happening to understand the safe use of ammonia as a shipping fuel. This webinar introduces MS NoGAPS and present new insights on ammonia safety gained from the MS NoGAPS vessel design, share initial findings from the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping/Lloyd’s Register quantitative risk assessment, before opening up for a panel discussion with NoGAPS partners from across the value chain on their perspectives on ammonia safety based on the project.
