Copenhagen, Denmark — The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping is pleased to announce that Lloyd's Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub (the Decarb Hub) is joining as a Knowledge Partner. Since 2021, the Center has worked closely with the Decarb Hub on a joint work programme addressing safety and risk management for the use of ammonia as a marine fuel. This collaboration has now reached a level of maturity that naturally leads to the formalization of our relationship through a long-term partnership. By joining as a Knowledge Partner, the Decarb Hub will bring additional scientific and strategic capabilities to the Center's efforts to accelerate the safe and sustainable decarbonization of global shipping.
The Decarb Hub has established itself as an independent actor, not-for-profit research and action unit, combining technical insight, systems thinking, and a deep understanding of maritime transition pathways. Their approach aligns closely with our ambition to accelerate a safe and sustainable transition to zero emissions.
As a Knowledge Partner, the Decarb Hub will contribute expertise in risk and safety engineering, analysis, Human Factors, and policy insights, working closely with the Center's technical teams on areas including: Safe implementation of sustainable marine fuels e.g. ammonia, providing deepened industry knowledge of risks and mitigations for ammonia as marine fuel and technical guidance on human-centered approach for the design of ammonia systems on vessels.
James Forsdyke, Managing Director of Lloyd's Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub, said:
We are proud to collaborate with the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping as a Knowlegde Partner to support its work in the design and operation of zero-emission vessels. By combining our expertise and experience in green corridor development, quantitative risk assessment, and seafarer competency mapping with the Center's world-leading capabilities in operational safety and fuel transition modelling, we look forward to driving the safe and scalable adoption of sustainable fuels across the international fleet to deliver meaningful progress toward a zero-emission maritime future.
The partnership supports both organizations shared mission: To accerelate the transformation of the gloabl maritime sector through interdisciplinary collaboration, shared data foundations, and systems-based approaches.

About the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping
The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS) is an independent, not-for-profit research and development center established in 2020 with funding from the A.P. Moller Foundation. Our purpose is to guide and accelerate decarbonization of the global maritime industry.
Working with our partners, governments, authorities, public sector bodies, scientists, and organizations across the global maritime industry we aim to inform, de-risk decision-making, and spark real climate action.
We are technology agnostic and have no vested interest in specific decarbonization solutions. We explore free of commercial considerations and independent of partner strategies. As a result, we deliver independent analyses of how the transition is progressing and clear, data-driven recommendations for accelerating maritime decarbonization. On top we are maturing solutions to the most pressing problems across the maritime value chain, from fuels to onboard solutions, regulations, and financing.
