SABRE: Singapore ammonia bunkering feasibility study

Developing and demonstrating an ammonia supply chain in Singapore, with a full design for ammonia fueled container vessel.

Project Objective

Developing and demonstrating an ammonia supply chain in Singapore, with a full design for ammonia-fueled container vessel.

The project is split into two phases, where Phase 1 performed an end-to-end technical and commercial feasibility study of ammonia bunkering in Singapore along with a preliminary ammonia bunkering vessel design. Phase 2 is looking into how to mature the commercial feasibility so that contractual terms across the supply chain are prepared and can be executed to establish an ammonia bunkering operation in Singapore. Additionally, Phase 2 will also see the consortium establish ammonia bunkering standards in Singapore enabling the acquisition of a provisional bunkering permit and an AiP for an Ammonia fuelled vessel.

When developing the ammonia-fueled vessel design, numerous considerations must be undertaken, such as: the selection of vessel type and dimensions, design basis confirmation, determining cargo handling systems, performing compatibility studies with NH3BV and safety provisions studies and regulatory rules. Furthermore, the second phase project scope considers: Principal Particulars and Conceptional Arrangement, Speed Power Curve and Fuel Consumption Table and a Feasibility Assessment Report that includes high-level impacts and general comparison table, theoretical CAPEX and (OPEX) estimation, fuel consumption and safety/operational considerations.

By the end of Phase 2, a full design for ammonia fueled container vessel will be obtained, which should include sufficient detailing for obtaining AIP. Expectations will be that the Center would have ownership of vessel design, either in full or combined with Center partners.
