The A.P. Moller Foundation increases its donation to a total of over one billion DKK to promote climate adaptation in, among others, shipping

The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (the Center) has just received a new donation of DKK 300 million from the A.P. Moller Foundation. The support is granted to continue the Center’s work in accelerating the maritime sector’s transition toward a CO₂-neutral future.

The grant builds on the A.P. Moller Foundation’s original donations in 2020 and 2022, bringing the total contribution to the Center’s work to more than DKK 1 billion.

Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla, Chair of the A.P. Moller Foundation, says:

“The A.P. Moller Foundation wishes to continue supporting the efforts to solve the climate challenges - including in global shipping. It is a Herculean task that MUST be solved, and it is more important than ever. The necessary transformation of the industry is possible when leadership is combined with collaboration, clear frameworks, and courage. The Center, which carries my father’s name, has shown its ability to bring together many global actors, unite technical knowledge with practical action, and create real progress in the work to reduce emissions.”

Since its founding in 2020, the Center has grown into a globally recognized and independent platform for collaboration. With around 150 employees, including experts from partner organizations working side by side at the headquarters in Copenhagen, the Center leads initiatives across industry, authorities, and research. The focus is on breaking down technological barriers, advancing innovation across sectors, and shaping the regulatory frameworks necessary to enable lasting change.

Bo Cerup-Simonsen, CEO of the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, says:

“This generous donation allows us to strengthen our role as an independent driving force in the green transition of shipping. In a sector marked by conflicting interests, the Foundation’s trust and support give us the freedom to maintain focus on the long-term climate agenda for the benefit of the wider community. We are grateful and motivated to translate this support into concrete results.”

“There is no time to waste. Our team and partners are fully committed to turning this donation into real progress and helping the industry bend the emissions curve in the coming years—working toward zero emissions through energy efficiency solutions and the broad adoption of new fuels.”
